Anna's Party

Anna had her very first friend party yesterday. Much to my surprise the house is still standing and I have not been committed, so it must have been a success!!!
We invited 9 other kids and 4 were able to come, which was exactly the number that I actually wanted to have running wild in my house for 2 hours.
We were very glad that we did not plan the party at the park as yesterday and today have been rainy/slushy and cold.

This week is Catholic Schools Week and is celebrated at St. Joseph's much the same as spirit week is in other schools. On Tuesday they were encouraged to dress as a favorite book character. Sams favorite character is the much loved mouse, Geronimo Stilton. I thought we did pretty good.
A big thank you to Grandma for her quick thinking on the vest and tie.

I had some wonderful ideas for this week. Unfortunately I ran out of time to see them through. So I will probably be taking this weeks challenge into the future. These are a couple of quick shots I took, the first was taken about five minutes after I read what the challenge would be for the week. Who can resist little hands.

This one is my favorite. I've been singing part of a song all week called "Daddy's Hands" so I knew I had to get at least one of these.

Yesterday we had a real storm. It started suddenly with hail and lots of it coming fast and furious with driving wind. The hail and wind broke up our tomato plants and some of the flowers in the front yard. Sadly the sunflowers took quite the beating too. The kids thought it was wonderful, and truthfully so did I. Summer rains always make me feel like dancing in the streets like I did as a kid. I did do some dancing, but mostly inside where it was dry. The time has come to pass on the dripping to the next generation and become the one holding the warm towel and dry clothes when playtime is done. Which means I had some time to take a couple of pictures.

The hail was small but plentiful.

This wash runs along the street below us and often runs during a storm. Although not always with this much water.

I had to be careful because the wind was blowing so hard we were getting wet even under the cover of our front porch. My new camera got sprinkled and we had to run inside FAST!!

This has been an exciting week at the Taylor house. Matt came home the other day with this organ that is in excellent condition. It came with some books that even I can figure out how to play a couple of tunes. This picture is of Sam trying to tap out a tune after my rendition of Feelings.

I just love little hands!!

Matt also came home with some other things, including a set of dinnerware that goes really well in our kitchen. Now if I can find a tablecloth that matches and is big enough for our table.......then I will find something else that we need, I am good at that. I just really like to shop!

While our household acquired some stuff Anna has acquired a new skill. READING!!!! This week she began her BOB books for beginning readers and has finished the first three as of today!! It was so amazing to watch her put words together from the sounds that she has been working on. Especially since half of the time she acts like she can't remember what a letter is, much less what sound it might make. As you can tell I am mighty proud of my little girl and can't wait to see what she will do next!!

We are at 20 hours and counting until we get to leave for vacation. We are not quite ready to go yet. Still a few odds and ends to see to, like food and toys. The kids seem to think that packing the toys is more important. They are being lead falsely by their full bellies, maybe I should take a lesson from them and listen to my own full belly. Hmm, No I think I will still get those giant steaks and bagels with everything that are on our menu.

Yesterday as I was packing up I ran across several of Lorelei's old jammies that just do not fit her anymore. As she likes to eat breakfast in them many have spots so they are not suitable to give away. I just really do not like to get rid of perfectly good things.( Just because they are too small and slightly stained does not mean that they are not perfectly good... for something.) I decided that the kids could really use some car pillows so I made one out of pants. Unfortunately I do not think that I will have enough time to make enough for all the kids.

Gwen's was the most important because she still falls asleep in the car and her seat no longer tips back to allow for proper neck posture. Hopefully this will keep her from severe neck pains on our journey.
