Return To Mingus Mountain

Fire and smoke couldn't keep us from returning to the mountain.

On the way home the "controlled" burn had gotten out of control and we had to return to Cottonwood via Prescott Valley.

30 minutes in the woods and our children had gone feral.

Stand back or get whacked!

The controlled burn started as a lightning strike in an area already scheduled for clearing. The fire jumped a forest road they had not planned on. The Woodchute fire has now burned 430 acres and is 20% "controlled".
89A is closed from the lookout 1 mile above Jerome, to the top of the mountain at the recreation area. It will be closed for at least 72 hours.
I think that we were in the last group of cars allowed over the mountain at all. Then we had to detour to Prescott Valley to get home.

Feral children they may be but they're STILL cute!

These children look just like the ones in Spring Creek. I guess the species is spread throughout the Valley and can survive in both wet and dirty-mountainous biomes. Keep looking for them and photograph them in other natural settings. Have you looked at Walmart? City parks? Do they frequent the Beach's?
